Welcome to the SVIRA Foundation Blog

Hello, and welcome to the SVIRA Foundation blog. This is our very first post, and this space will be where we share stories, insights and updates from the ground.

Who we are

SVIRA Foundation is a Section 8 not-for-profit company registered in Maharashtra. SVIRA stands for Sustainable Vision for Inclusive and Resilient Actions, and that is exactly what we hope to build: long-term, community-led change that includes everyone and holds up in difficult times.

Our work spans public health, education, women empowerment, environment, rural development, youth employment, technology for social good, and disaster relief.

Why we started

There was no single dramatic moment behind SVIRA. Our founding team has spent years working in the health sector, and again and again we saw the same gaps in the field, with very little changing. SVIRA is our effort to work on those gaps steadily, with communities rather than for them.

The story behind our name

Our name carries our families with it. VI comes from Vijaykumar Bhagat and RA from Ramesh Govande, the fathers of our two founders. Together they formed VIRA. We later added S for Sustainable, and SVIRA was born. The values we grew up with, care, honesty and service to others, are the values we want this foundation to stand on.

What our logo means

In our logo, the letters V (Vision) and A (Actions) come together to form a banyan tree, a tree that gives shelter and keeps growing for generations. At its heart is a rising sun, and its rays become the leaves of the tree. For us, it is a simple reminder that vision and action together can grow into a brighter future.
